Aus dem Allende-Viertel: We just called her "grandma".

I come from Afghanistan. Germany has been a hope for me, for my health, dreams and a safe life. I have never been so accepted by a person as I was by my "grandma", whom I was lucky enough to meet in a refugee home. We had Christmas time then and all the children got presents. Unfortunately, my present was stolen and grandma saw me crying and looking for my present. Then she tried to help me and brought me a new present the very next day. She took me in like her own granddaughter and made me the person I am now. Moreover, from that day on, she was always there for me and my family and helped us so that we now have our own flat and live a safe life. Although she has left us now, she will always be the person I felt most comfortable with. I am now at a secondary school and doing my A-levels to fulfil my goals. My father has a job and earns his own money and the rest of my family is also very happy. We have grandma to thank for this life! Many refugees could have a better life here if they were helped just like us.
